It's a Wonderful Life

Unlike my last blog, things are going really well. Mainly because I am at home feeling the love and support of my family and friends. Yes, I am back in Chico, CA enjoying the rain and Christmas-like atmosphere. Christmas is a big deal for our family and I'm excited that my favorite time of the year has come around.

I am blessed with many things this year including:

- A great job and awesome coworkers
- A loving family
- Supportive friends
- A dog always ready to listen
- A house (with a great fireplace)
- and A heart that is more excited to give this year...than to receive.

I hope that all of you have a very Merry Christmas, may your families be as blessed as mine.

Until next time...

Gravity

A perfect song for my current condition...

Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh I'll never know what makes this man
With all the love that his heart can stand
Dream of ways to throw it all away

Oh Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh twice as much aint twice as good
And can't sustain like a one half could
It's wanting more
That's gonna send me to my knees
(repeat)

Oh gravity, stay the hell away from me
And gravity has taken better men than me you see now how can that be?

Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Keep you me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Ohh… where the light is!

Its hard to find the light when things seem so dark... but there is one source of light that remains constant

Midterms are Over

Well its been awhile hasn't it? Basically right now my life consists of school, RA stuff, homework and sleep. I check my email early in the morning and late at night when I have time. Its 12:31am right now; I'm on duty because its Thursday, so I just got done with my second rounds. It was all clear on the homefront, some noise here and there but no biggy. I have a feeling tonight is a 2am caller night though, we'll have to see.

I just finished my midterms today. I've done pretty well on all of them, but I already have round two coming up in about two weeks. I feel like I'm living in a never ending cycle called college.

I am excited about my recent success at a program I hosted for the residents. A colleague and I hosted a program called 'iStress', designed to inform students about stress management. A professor from the CSUF kinesiology department spoke and we served Olive Garden to the residents. We had 80 resident attend, one of the best turn outs so far! It was encouraging to see something you work so hard on turn into a real success.

For now, my main priority is sleep. Goodnight everyone.

Oh, and in case I forget, Happy Birthday to my Dad on the 15th, and my Papa on the 13th! Love you guys!

Full Swing

Well classes are in full swing. No more teachers letting you out early because they want to take it easy for the first few classes... more like teachers trying to cram too much information into a limited about of time... until the clock ticks and they cannot legally keep us captive anymore. Yes the countless hours of poor fellows who strut and fret their hours upon their own stage have regretfully begun again.

I have been lucky the past two weekends to be able to travel home and have time away from school and RA work, which seem to combined take all of my time away from me.

August 25th, my Dad flew me (and my brother) home to see my Mom and suprise her for her 50th Birthday. Suprised cannot accuratley describe the scene that took place. Shock is more appropriate for the emotion on my mother's face as she turned the corner of our home to see 40 of her closest friends led by my brother and I, there to celebrate with her.

September 1, Jeff's Dad provided the funds for Jeff and I to ride a train home to Chico for the Labor Day weekend. A generous act on his part led to a great time for Jeff, Jesus (a fellow RA from Pomona we brought with us) and me. We spent a lot of time with friends and family for an overall fun, yet exhausting trip. We had quite a few laughs though.

Pictures of the three of us goofing around on Labor Day weekend.

With school back into high gear, its hard to find time for myself. I find any free time is taken up by extra RA activities; such as: supporting my fellow RAs and their programs, planning my own programs, visiting residents, and many other things. I am hoping to find time to update this weekly.

I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy.

Until next time.

Later days.

Tomorrow is the big day!

Well I figured I would check in today because tomorrow is the big day... Resident's move in. I'm excited yet nervous at the same time. It should be fun to get to know some new people and finally put all the things I've been learning in training the past two weeks to use. Today is our final day alone as a staff. There's almost a nervous tension amongst us, everyone I think just anxious for tomorrow to be here. But I'm actually only on break from training. I'll check in once everything is settled. Cross your fingers, that everything runs smooth!!

Thanks.

Settled In

Well I'm back... in Fullerton that is. And back to posting semi-annual blogs. The first of course is the tour of my new room. I'm finally moved in and settled and got some shots of everything. So welcome to the online 25 cent tour.

First I live in Acacia 305 now, its a single room so I'm all alone in there. Which is good I guess because there is NO WAY two people could fit in that space.

This is what you see when you open my front door (which has a doorbell by the way)
IMG_0792.JPG
When you stand in our living room there is an opening to the kitchen, this picture is from the living room looking into the kitchen.
IMG_0794.JPG
This is the living room standing at the sliding glass door.
IMG_0795.JPG
The sliding glass door leads to our balcony, since I'm on the third floor again. This is the view to the left.

And the view to the right
IMG_0810.JPG
Here's my bathroom, its the larger of the two, hey I got to choose.
IMG_0796.JPG
I didn't take pictures of the hallways because there was stuff in the way. But now here is my room. First is when you're in the hallway looking into the room.
IMG_0798.JPG
That wall is the side of the closet. To the left we have...
IMG_0799.JPG
everything else. Thats the bed and my desk and there are two windows in the corner one on either wall. The bed has four drawers underneath that you can't see.
IMG_0800.JPG
This is the wall directly across from the door and the bed. And here is the closet from the other side.
IMG_0802.JPG
And the closet has a door so it can close.
IMG_0804.JPG
This an organizer for some storage on the back of my door.

This is my fantastic view.

From the left window...

and the right...

So there it is in all of its grace and glory. The dorm room for '06-'07. You're welcome to come visit I do have a couch.

For those of you interested. RA training is going really well. I'm learning things but also getting to know my partners in crime a little better as well as the campus and the job that lies ahead of my this year. Hope everyone is well.

Until next time.

Later days!

Summer fun... now summer done

Well its July 30th and I will be leaving in just 4 short days. I haven't even started packing, just making the long list of things I need to pack. I can't believe the summer is basically over! Its been a good one, but I'm excited to head back to Fullerton and get year number two under way. I'm excited to see my friends and coworkers and to settle back in for another year. I will almost miss the 111 degree weather in Chico while I bask in the 75 degree weather of SoCal. With lots of cool events this year I think it'll be better than the last. Until next time...Brianna.

SUMMER FUN!

You're probably wondering why it has taken me so long to update my blog. Well to tell you the truth I've just been enjoying my summer way too much! What an eventful summer it's already been. Between catching up with family and friends, trips to Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and San Jose, and helping with my cousin's wedding plans; my summer has been packed.

Biggest highlight so far has been the 2006 CRM Worldwide Conference in Santa Barbara. Its all a fancy way that I got to go hang out with some realy cool people in Santa Barbara. The conference was CRM's biggest yet with over 600 missionaries in attendance. I got to see friends that I haven't seen in about 4 years; and also good family friends who have been living in South Africa for a year.

Eric's worship team did a phenomenal job as usual, and the speaker McManus really drove home the theme of the conference of Empowering Leaders: Consecrate.

Hanging with old friends combined with some great teachings by Erwin McManus it was two weeks that tapped right into my heart. I have some pictures on my Flickr right now (look to the picture bar to the right) and I'll be putting more up later.

Until next time.

SUPRISE!!

Well my roommates and my parents conspired behind my back to throw me a surprise party for my birthday! Boy was I shocked! Brittany, Gina, Melissa, Andrea, Jeff, Brian and I all had a great dinner at BJ's. It served not only as a birthday dinner, but also one last time for us all to really hang out before the stress of finals! We had a blast, and really enjoyed the PAZOOKIE'S (If you haven't had one you have to try it)!! Here are some pics from the night.

Packing...ugh

Last night began my official packing of my dorm. Ugh...what a... lovely... experience. As you can tell I'm not exactly thrilled with the packing process. Boxes...emptiness...yuck.

And packing means saying goodbye to some really great friends I've made this year. Not saying goodbye forever, just goodbye for summer. And adios to some roommates who will now become good friends...great friends...for life.

I will be leaving CSUF for the summer on May 26th, Friday. And I will be returning to Chico! I go back to school on August 4, 2006 to report for duty.

For those of you who haven't heard I've been hired to be a resident advisor for the 2006-2007 school year. Its very exciting and I will be living with one of my current roommates again in my singles apartment.

Thats all for now.

Here are some pictures of my sadness...

19th Birthday!!

Hello again everyone!

Today is May 14th, 2006 (Mother's day, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM) the day after my 19th birthday! And what an amazing birthday it was!

I was pleasantly surprised to receive wonderful gifts from all of my family!

On Friday night Jeff took me to a very nice dinner at a restaurant in downtown Fullerton called Romana Cucina. It was a really nice night.

And midnight, the first minute of my birthday my roommates, a few friends, and Jeff presented me with their presents. They had made me three cakes and a pie!

[From left to right we have Andrew, Jeffery, Brittany, and Gina, and Brian below]

Jeff then handed me an envelope with two DISNEYLAND TICKETS inside!!

On Saturday we took our tickets and spent the entire day at Disneyland. Brittany, my roommate, works there and joined us for the second part of the day as well. It was such a blast. We rode all the rides we wanted, watched the parade, Fantasmic!, and the fireworks show! It was truly a birthday I will never forget.

Who could forget something like this?

PS. The countdown is on... I'll be home in 5 days for Donya's Grad and then in 13 days home for the summer!

Last Call with Carson Daly

On Thursday April 27th, a group of my friends and I went to the taping of Last Call with Carson Daly. We went for the specific purpose of seeing Ben Harper who was the musical guest for the show. Little did we know it was a special episode and Ben would be playing THREE songes instead of just ONE! We arrived early enough to sit in the first row of chairs on the balcony, and... when the music began we were moved to the FRONT ROW in front of the stage! We watched Ben Harper perform from a little over 5 FEET AWAY! It was a blast.
I was literally this close:

Here's Carson interviewing Ben:

And here's the whole crowd at the show. If you look on the floor to the far right of the stage you can see Jeff's head, I'm standing right in front of him but I'm too short to see!

The show airs on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) after Conan so check it out!!

Easter

Hope everyone had a nice Easter Sunday! I know I did, after attending Rock Harbor for the PACKED morning service, my roommate Gina invited a group of us to her house! We had a delicious dinner but I'm not sure what it was, they looked like mini turkeys! And then a good old fashioned Easter egg hunt. Of course I missed my family! But my holiday was still nice! Check out the funny pics of us at dinner!
